Class Descriptions
Young Children’s Division (ages 3-9)
- Creative Movement: Designed for 3-4 year olds. Class meets once a week for 45 minutes.
- Kinderdance: Designed for 5-6 year olds. This class is a combination of pre-ballet and tap. Class meets once a week for 1 hour.
- Introductory Ballet: Designed for 6-9 year olds. Class meets once a week for 1 hour of introductory ballet technique.
Basic Technique Division (ages 8 and up with appropriate dance experience)
- Ballet IA: Beginner Classical Ballet Technique with knowledge of introductory vocabulary. Class meets once a week for 1 hour.
- Ballet IB: Classical Ballet Technique with knowledge of fundamental ballet vocabulary. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
- Modern I: Basic Modern Technique class with at least one year of Introductory Ballet. Must have completed at least one year of Intorductory Ballet. Class meets once a week for 1 hour.
- Youth Tap/Jazz: Basic Jazz Technique and Tap Rhythms class. Class meets for once a week for 1 hour.
- Youth Ballet: Basic Ballet Technique class for ages 11-18 with little or no Classical Ballet training. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
Intermediate Technique Division (prerequisites must be met; by teacher placement only)
- Ballet II: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Level I Ballet Syllabus. Class meets twice a week for 1.5 hours of technique (3 hours total).
- Ballet IIIA with Pre/Beginner Pointe: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Ballet II Syllabus. Class meets 3 times a week for 1.5 hours of Technique. (Students also have a 2 times per week option.)
- Pre/Beginner Pointe: Students must have completed at least one year of Ballet II and consistently demonstrate sufficient strength and skill. Class meets twice a week for .5 hours (1 hour total).
- Modern II: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Modern I Syllabus and have completed at least one year of Ballet IB or Youth Ballet. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
- Intermediate Jazz: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Youth Tap/Jazz Syllabus. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
- Intermediate Tap: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Youth Tap/Jazz Syllabus. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
Advanced Technique Division (prerequisites must be met; by teacher placement only)
- Ballet IIIB/IV/V with Pointe: Students should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the syllabi for previous Ballet levels. Class meets 3 times a week for Technique and Pointe. Technique may also be done en Pointe depending on the student’s level (6.5 hours total). (Students also have a 2 times per week option.)
- Modern III: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Modern II Syllabus and have completed at least one year of Ballet III. Class meets once a week for 2 hours.
- Advanced Jazz: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Intermediate Jazz Syllabus. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
- Advanced Tap: Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Intermediate Tap Syllabus. Class meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
Adult Classes
Gaston Dance Theatre also offers a variety of adult classes includung Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz and Ballroom! These classes, for dancers 18 years of age and older, focus on dance technique, building coordination skills, stretching/toning, creative expression - and, above all, FUN! Classically trained instructors teach all of our adult dance classes. No previous dance experienced is required.
