Fairy Tale Ballet Camp $55 per week 10am-11am
Students will learn basic ballet warm-ups and traveling steps using themes from ballets such as “Sleeping Beauty” or “Cinderella” as well as songs from well-known fairy tales.
June 28-July 2 July 5- July 9
Designed for the serious dancer. This class will focus on technique and vocabulary. Along with a refresher of the basics.

Mandatory for students who would like to participate in The Nutcracker 2010 This camp will focus on learning dances from the ballet. 11am-12:30 Level 1A-11 1:00-3:00 Level III+
ADULT CLASSES—Ballet, Tap, Modern, Ballroom, Belly Dancing $100 per session Adult classes run for 6 weeks per session
Youth Jazz & Lyrical $55 per week
Introduction to Modern Dance $55 per week No pre-requisite required July 12-16 10:30-11:30; 60-minute class
This “Try It Course” enables inexperienced dancers and new-to-modern dancers the opportunity to try modern dance expression. Class will focus on primary positions coupled with movement and motion. Emphasis will be placed on individual expression. Some of the class is pre-choreographed.
Beginning Modern Dance Intensive $65 per week Pre-requisite: Ballet 1B or Intro to Modern July 19-23 10:30-12:00; 90-minute class
Knowledge of basic ballet or modern positions and form is required for this weeklong course. Class will focus on primary modern positions and self-expression outside the structure of classical dance. Emphasis will be placed on individual expression within a group ensemble.
Advanced Beginning Modern Dance Intensive $65 per week Pre-requisites: Beg Modern I July 12-16 9:00-10:30; 90-minute class
Knowledge of basic modern positions is required. Class will focus on utilizing multi-levels, exhibiting emotions and interpretation. Music selections will vary from lyrics to tempo.
Intermediate Modern Dance Intensive $65 per week Pre-requisite: Adv Beg Modern July 19-23 9:00-10:30, 90-minute class
Class will focus on phrases and combinations exhibiting emotions, expression and fluidity. A different type of music will be used each day.
Butterfly Dancer Workshop/Auditions Pre-requisite: Ballet 1B/Beginning Modern August 2-6 9:00-10:30; 90-minute workshop - Auditions to be held after Friday’s class time
The Gaston Dance Theatre Butterfly Dancers perform for special occasions outside the normal performance schedule. This dance incorporates basic ballet and modern movements to create butterflies in an awakening garden. Emphasis is placed on butterfly movement interpretations, tempo, ability to execute Corps movements and improvisation. Auditions will be held immediately after class on the last day. A minimum of eight (8) butterflies are needed for a performance.
Dreamweaver Workshop/Auditions Pre-requisite: Adv Beginning Modern August 2-6 1:30-3:-00; 90-minute workshop - Auditions to be held after Friday’s class time
The Dreamweaver piece is a dance interpretation of how the native American, Ojibwa Indian dream catcher “protects” a dreamer by letting good dreams flourish while obstructing nightmares. This dance includes basic modern and ballet movements with some gymnastic movements used to weave a dream catcher in the dance. Auditions will be for positions: Dreamweaver, Dreams, Nightmare and the Dream Catcher structure, itself. Auditions will be held immediately after class on the last day. A minimum of nine (9) dancers are needed to perform.
GDT Backstage Tech Discussion Class WHO: Volunteers for GDT performances. Open to Ages 18 and older. Four (4 ) Hour Class - 2 hours/each Tuesday Evenings not yet scheduled
This class will focus on requirements for backstage positions and responsibilities, including backstage etiquette. Roles of lighting and sound will also be discussed. This information is suitable for all aspects of backstage work but will utilize GDT’s The Nutcracker performances and needs as a model. Some focus will be placed on other volunteer positions. A walk-through of performance setup and breakdown will be included.
GDT Prop Workshops WHO: Volunteers and parents for GDT performances. Open to Ages 18 and older. Summer Evenings/Weekends as needed.
This is a HANDS-ON workshop. Be prepared to work hard and get dirty. These workshops are designed to familiarize GDT’s volunteer backstage techs with the props associated with each performance, specifically The Nutcracker. Existing and new props need to be designed, reworked, repainted, etc. Volunteers need to send their contact information to: Allison Gahrmann (a_gahr@benchmarkii.com) to be included in the schedule.
